The Pain of Psoriasis And How Argan Oil Can Help

Argan Oil for Psoriasis

In our last blog post, we dug into a lot of the benefits that Argan Oil has for your skin and hair.

In this article, we’re going to dig a little deeper into how the oil can help you to treat a specific skin condition – psoriasis.

What is Psoriasis?

Psoriasis is a skin condition that causes flaky red patches to appear on your skin. Typically, these patches have scales with a silver tint to them.

They can appear anywhere on your body, but most psoriasis sufferers find that they’re most common on the knees, elbows, lower back, and scalp. The patches can cause irritation, soreness, and itchiness. However, some people only experience the dryness that comes with the condition.

It can occur at any age, but it’s most common in adults aged 35 and over. It affects about 2% of the population and its severity varies depending on the person. Unfortunately, it’s also classed as a chronic condition. That means it can come back to affect you at any time, even after long periods of inactivity.

What are the Causes?

The most important thing to note is that psoriasis is not a contagious condition. That means you’re not going to catch it from somebody else and you can’t transmit it either.

The condition essentially causes your body to go into overdrive in regards to skin cell production. Typically, it takes your body replaces your skin cells about once per month. With psoriasis, this process takes place over the course of 3 to 7 days. That’s why you get such thick patches of dry skin. Your body’s basically making skin that ends up layering on top of your existing skin instead of replacing it.

Scientists still don’t fully understand the causes of the condition. We do know that the condition can run in the family, though we don’t know what genetic conditions have to be met to pass the condition onto a family member.

It also appears that psoriasis comes about due to a problem with your immune system. This is due to the fact that the condition attacks healthy skin cells.

Usually, a trigger leads to the condition forming. Such triggers include injury to the skin and using some types of medicine.

How Does Argan Oil Help?

Argan Oil cannot fully cure psoriasis as it’s a chronic condition. However, it can help you to treat it and also appears to offer some protection against it.

The main reason for this is its high Vitamin E content. Vitamin E is an essential compound that your skin needs to stay healthy. Applying Argan Oil hydrates your skin and gives it a direct dose of Vitamin E.

Argan Oil also contains squalene. This is a chemical compound that many manufactured moisturisers contain. It’s naturally occurring in Argan Oil, which makes it better for you. Squalene is a lubricant and moisturiser, which means it can help skin recover quicker when psoriasis causes problems.

The good news is that psoriasis is not a dangerous condition. However, that doesn’t change the fact that it affects you cosmetically and can cause you some discomfort.
